Meet The Ministry Team

Pastor Bob Brooks has been a Disciples pastor since his graduation from Lexington Seminary in 1981. He has served congregations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington State. He started a new congregation in Aurora, Illinois, and worked on another in Brownsburg, Indiana. Since moving back from the west coast he has been an interim pastor in Melbourne, Florida, Winterville, North Carolina, and here at Ashland Christian Church.
Pastor Bob is married to Annie Porter. She is from Wabash, Indiana. He has two grown sons, Jeremy and Joshua. Jeremy lives in Columbus, Ohio. Joshua lives in Woodbridge, VA. Bob and Annie enjoy spending lots of time with their granddaughters Ruby, and Luci. They also love to travel. They have been to Spain five times walking different routes of the Camino de Santiago Compostela. In addition, they have been to the Holy Lands.
He is an avid canoeist having paddled in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota, the Green River in Utah, and the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, and Ontario in Canada. He also enjoys cooking (eating), gardening, and most anything spontaneous.
After his first month as interim pastor, he says that he finds the Ashland Christian Church is a pretty good church with pretty good people. He says Ashland Christian is an open and affirming congregation with a big heart and open arms. As he has told us, “We are a faith community that wants all to know that you are welcome here just as you are. Your thoughts are welcome. Your doubts are welcome. We are in this together and God is here, ready to connect with you in a fresh way.”
